Remote Sensing

Earth Orbiting satellites are mapping the world and monitoring Global Climate Change and Carbon Balance. Skye Light and Radiation sensors are being widely used on ground based systems for long term monitoring and scaling up data to satellite equivalents. NDVI, PRI and most satellite spectral bands in VIS, NIR and SWIR are available in calibrated 2 and 4 channel radiometers.

Plant Research

Skye’s name has always been synonymous with Plant Research instrumentation. PAR and Red-Far Red light sensors, Scholander water potential measurement, Leaf Area and Root Length software systems and soil moisture tensiometers are widely used in universities and research institutes world wide.

Industry

The MiniMet weather station is used in a wide variety of industrial applications where due diligence records are necessary for protection of the environment, such as waste management sites, water treatment plants and manufacturing industries. Quarries and construction sites also use the station for dust control and environmental records.

Ground Truthing

Reflected light measurement sensors from Skye are used at ground level for mapping, on tall masts for seasonality and on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and aircraft for larger scales. Studies include vegetation cover, weed mapping, satellite ground truthing and validation, and boundary layer atmospheric aerosols.

Light Measurement

Skye light sensors measure from low level moonlight to the brightest sunlight. Applications are as varied as plant and crop growth, fish farming, UV Index for skin health, meteorology, turtle conservation, street lighting control, insect navigation, satellite ground truthing and bat habitat monitoring.

Horticulture

Commercial horticulture makes regular use of Skye’s light sensors in glasshouses and Controlled Environments and soil moisture systems in automatic irrigation systems both under cover and outdoors. Technology transfer from Agriculture research establishments has resulted in Skye MiniMet weather stations in daily use producing higher quality produce, with lower chemical and water usage.
